How’s your outlook on life? Do you get
a kick out of it or do you feel that it likes to get a kick out of you?
Take our quiz to find out whether you need to adjust that attitude.
1)
You’re being forced against your wishes to go on a
family holiday instead of spending the summer hanging at
the beach with your mates. You: a) Mope and grumble for the whole holiday, ruining it for everyone
and making yourself feel even worse in the process.
b) Sulk all the way there in the car but do your best to make friends
and have a good time once you arrive.
c) Get over it before you even leave - there’s no point in
wasting your time being grouchy about it.
2)
You’ve been set up on a
blind date with a friend of your good friend’s boyfriend.
You: a) Feel a little bit nervous but trust your friend and her boyfriend
that they wouldn’t set you up unless they thought the two
of you had something in common.
b) Don’t even worry about it. You’re sure you’ll
have something to talk about and regardless of whether sparks fly;
it’s a great opportunity to meet someone new.
c) Stress about it so much you consider calling it all off. You’re
worried he’ll be either a complete dud or he’ll be so
fab you’ll be too tongue-tied to talk to him.
3)
Your friend has just got top marks in art class for doing
the most stunning painting of her cat while your interpretation
of Fluffy looks like the poor thing’s
been squashed by a tractor. You: a) Instantly feel second-rate and start whining to your friends
about how useless you are at art, completely ignoring the fact you
don’t really enjoy it anyway and you got brilliant marks for
your English essay just yesterday.
b) Give her a hug and tell her how amazing she is and how proud
you are.
c) Go home and start practicing your painting, determined to be
the next Van Gogh.
4) You’ve got a whole night
of girly pampering, soppy-video watching and chocolate eating lined
up with just you and your bestie at her house. When you get there,
you discover she’s invited the new girl in your class along,
too. You: a) Think it’s a great idea she invited her. You know how hard
it can be when you don’t have any friends at a new school
and besides, she’s a lovely girl.
b) Refuse to join in any of the fun and mope in the corner. How
dare this new girl intrude on your bestie time?
c) Feel a little bit jealous at first but get over it as the night
wears on and you realise this girl isn’t out to steal your
mate - she just wants to make some new ones, you included.
5)
You’re having a shocker
of a day. Your hair is a big frizzy mess, you got a bad mark
on your maths test and the cute boy down the road snobbed you.
You: a) Complain about it to anyone who will listen - then have a good
laugh and feel better about your misfortunes, because, really, life
is bigger than this!
b) Freak out and go straight home - complaining of a migraine -
to lie under your duvet for the rest of the day, until you recover.
c) Chin up, girlfriend! Everyone has bad days and you know you’re
no exception.
6
Everyone else in the world has a date for the ball (or at
least that’s what it feels
like!) except for you. You: a) Pay your brother’s friend to come along with you. There
is no way you are going solo, even if it costs you.
b) Look on the bright side, at least you don’t have to worry
about whether or not he’s having a good time and you can shake
your booty on the dance floor with all the cute single boys there.
c) Hunt down a group of singles and hang out with them instead.
You can face going alone but can’t face being the only one
going alone.
7)
You have no money and all your friends are going to the movies.
You already owe your parents and little sister money and you feel
bad about asking for another loan. You: a) Decide that a night in isn’t going to kill you. You’ve
got the rest of your life to have fun with your friends, so you’ll
stay home and hang out with your little sis instead.
b) Bribe some cash from your sister and promise (for the hundredth
time) that you’ll pay her back soon.
c) Organise a video night at your place and persuade as many of
your friends as possible to come hang out with you instead. Who
says you can’t have fun, too?
8)
You’re at the movies with
your friends when your crush comes over to say hi to your group.
You could’ve sworn he was checking you out: a) But you convince yourself that he wasn’t – it was
just your mind playing tricks on you.
b) You’re in! You can’t believe your luck! You’ve
liked this guy for ages and finally he’s taking some notice
of you.
c) Yes, he was definitely interested in you but maybe he just wants
to get closer to you so he can get closer to your friend, who you’re
sure is the true object of his affections.
9)
You’re really looking forward
to the big party your friend is having on Saturday. On Friday
night the hugest zit breaks out on your forehead. You: a) Sigh and try and cover it up with concealer, hoping no one notices.
b) Cry, rant, rave, generally feel very sorry for yourself and then
boycott the party.
c) Take some deep breaths and try to will it to go away. If it doesn’t
you’re fairly sure you can style your hair to cover it.
10
You’re in the middle of
a phone convo with a new mate from school when your mobile
runs out of batteries. You: a) Beg to borrow your friend’s mobile so you can call her
back. You so don’t want her to think you’re a snob.
b) Figure that she’ll work it out and make a mental note to
call her back when you get home.
c) Race straight home to charge your phone.

– 10 One big reality check coming up!
Hey, come on! Life isn’t really THAT bad is it? You
could definitely do with a more positive outlook in life.
The vibes you give out reflect on who you are as a person,
so if you’re busy spreading rays of negativity instead
of sunshine, people will treat you accordingly. By adjusting
your attitude and seeing the glass as being half full, rather
than half empty, you’ll find life just gets better and
better. Having more confidence in yourself is a great way
to overcome negative feelings. Remember that everyone has
their off days or bad things happen to them; but it’s
how you deal with it that makes a difference.
11 – 20 In need of a confidence boost?
Well, like the rest of us you have your good days and your
bad. On the whole you manage to overcome things that life
throws at you but perhaps you could do with some extra confidence.
Grab a hold of life and sink your teeth into it – don’t
be shy! You get out what you put in and as you become more
aware of exactly what it is you want, you’ll find it
easier to make decisions and work out what is right for you
and what isn’t.
21 – 30 Right on track …
Good for you! You certainly don’t let obstacles trip
you up and you seem to have a firm grasp on the fact that
life isn’t trying to catch you out. Your positive outlook
will help you get through any tough times that come your way.
Make sure, however, that you’re not fooling yourself,
as sometimes it is OK get a bit annoyed over things. Standing
up for yourself is a good thing; don’t let anyone push
you around just coz you come across as an easy-going, go-with-the-flow
kinda gal.
